DDD’s Best Fifth(?) Octave Notes: B4

Yep, we’re jumping down an entire octave. Compilation of the best B4s (B below tenor C) put together by members of DigitalDreamDoor. It’s not really a fifth octave note of course, but it’s close enough, and truly it is one of the best notes ever. So there. This is *not* an official list, and it is in no order. The only rule here is that there is only one note per singer. * “Don’t Stop Believin” (live) – Steve Perry (Journey) * “Kill the Band” – Jimmy Gnecco (Ours) * “The Lemon Song” – Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) * “Roads to Madness” – Geoff Tate (Queensryche) * “Twilight of the Gods” – Michael Kiske (Helloween) * “Scarred” – James LaBrie (Dream Theater) * “The Magic of the Wizard’s Dream” – Christopher Lee (Rhapsody) * “Carry on Wayward Son” – Steve Walsh (Kansas) * “Black No.1” – Peter Steele (Type O Negative) * “Everything’s Alright” – John Farnham (from ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’) * “Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg” – Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) * “Hunger Strike” (live) – Chris Cornell * “Save the World” – Jon Bon Jovi (Bon Jovi) * “Hurt” (live) – Elvis Presley * “Love Is the Hero” – Freddie Mercury (Billy Squier) * “What Will You Say” (live) – Jeff Buckley * “You” – Thom Yorke (Radiohead) * “Mr. Universe” – Ian Gillan * “Summer Moved On” (live) – Morten Harket (a-ha) * “The Skies Above” – Tomoaki Watanabe (The Black Mages) * “Catch the Rainbow” (live) – Ronnie James Dio (Rainbow) * “Goodnight and Good Morning” – Graham Bonnet * “Eulogy” – Maynard James Keenan (Tool

They´re all fantastic notes. That the only singer, of all those shown in the clip, who had the complete package is not known for these types of notes is what makes Presley´s notes all the more enjoyable. His is a nice voice as he says ” I would never, never hurt” then slowly develops into a thunderstorm of a seven second note which changes colour, and tonality, within the same note. Of course, this is not what makes Presley´s voice unique, what does is that he was known for it.

Nice post. May I make a minor correction?
Steve Walsh hit a c5 on this particular post’s recording. It’s a b4 on the record, but this particular recording here is a c5 (tenor high c).
